During this time of year, I feel the need as a single woman to remind myself that there are perks to not being bound by a relationship. Here are my Top Ten Perks of Being Single:
10. I never have to worry about the “toilet seat” issue. Come on ladies and gents, you know that I’m talking about here. Women don’t enjoy taking a dip in the deep blue anymore than men enjoy seeing a box of tampons. Both are equally disturbing to the opposite sex.
9. If I want Chinese food, I do not have to consult with any significant other on whether or not they want Chinese food. Some of the silliest fights I’ve ever heard entailed one person craving Italian and the other person wanting Mexican.
8. Dollywood! Let’s say I want to run away for the weekend. I won’t have to run it by a husband first. I can just pack a bag and hit the highway. Life’s grand that way.
7. Having the entire bed to myself. My mother and friends have called me many things after sharing a bed with me. One of them is Bed Hog. That’s right, I sleep in the middle of my queen sized sleigh bed and spread out!
6. I have time to focus on my dreams. Recently I took a year off to complete my Master’s Degree. If I had a family to worry about, this wouldn’t have happened. Don’t get me wrong, I want a family someday, but why not enjoy my freedom while I have it.
5. Going out with friends! When you’re in a relationship, you have to think about the other person, and a lot of the time you spend with them cuts into your friend time. I get to see my friends whenever I want. This may not be great for them, but I love it!
4. All night I Love Lucy marathon! I control the television in my house. No more fights over the remote, or catching grief over watching another episode of Heartland. I can watch what I want, when I want, and as many times as I want so there.
3. Pizza and Ice cream! I can devour that large pepperoni pizza and pint of ice cream while crying over Julia Roberts in Steal Magnolias without a care in the world.
2. Not feeling social? I can stay in my pajamas all day and look like a nightmare without worry of someone seeing me at my worst. Sometimes you just need a day to kickback and be lazy.
1. I can take this time to really find out who I am in God’s eyes so that I can focus on the man He wants me to be with. I don’t have to worry about settling or marrying the wrong person. No one is pressuring me to make romantic decisions.
